RENOVA continues to take on new challenges as the renewable energy leader.
RENOVA began full-scale work on the Renewable Energy Business in 2012. We have since been proactively developing diverse energy sources, including biomass, wind power, geothermal power and hydro power in addition to solar PV power. At present, a total of 15 power plants are in operation in Japan and Asia.
Our biomass power generation project in Akita, which began operating in July 2016, boasts a generation capacity of 20.5 MW, among the largest in the Tohoku area. The main fuel for this plant is unused materials generated in Akita Prefecture. United Renewable Energy Co., Ltd., a local company in which RENOVA has invested jointly with other companies, operates this plant which contributes to the development of the local economy and regional revitalization by creating jobs for local people and revitalizing the local forestry industry.
Karumai East and Karumai West Solar (Iwate Prefecture) are a large-scale solar PV project that began operating in 2019. Together, they are one of Japan’s largest development projects to be located in mountainous terrain, where construction is difficult. Part of the revenue from this project’s electricity sales will be donated to the government of Karumai Town based on the Act on Promoting Generation of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources Harmonized with Sound Development of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, which was enacted in 2014. In addition, we plan to use the building of a closed junior high school as the worksite office and will work proactively with local companies and the forestry cooperative, to contribute to regional revitalization.
In February 2017, RENOVA was listed on Mothers. Only one year after that, the company was listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. At present, it is still experiencing rapid growth.
In addition, we are expanding our business proactively across all of Asia, including Japan, aiming to become Asia’s renewable energy leader.
